Our Verdict

Samba is a lively tribute to the legendary Rio Carnival, and the Samba queen intro sets the stage for what you are about to experience in this game. The rhythmic pacing keeps the energy level high all the way, not least with the turbo maxed out. It’s a bit strange when you notice it, though, as the game animations, like the spotlights, speed up significantly. This is a tad unusual for a turbo spin setting, which usually only affects the spin speed. In Samba, the whole game suddenly gets ADHD, but it kind of works if you want that high-octane flow.

The Samba symbol takes center stage in the base game, and even more so with the Extra Bet feature switched on. Turning all premium symbols into the highest-value Samba queen symbol is a clever mechanic that can also lead to solid payouts. It’s even more fun when you get a respin of the non-transformed positions, with the possibility of multiple respins as long as you land new Samba symbols. Still, even if you manage to fill the screen, it only takes you halfway to the 1,000x win cap.

This is my main issue with Samba, as the math model feels a bit imbalanced. You get a solid 97% RTP, well above the industry average, combined with a rather disappointing max win of only 1,000x your stake. That would work better for a low volatility slot, but Samba leans more towards medium than low with a score of 3 out of 5 on TaDa’s scale. A max win of 5,000x the stake would’ve been more fair for a game like this and would’ve made it more worthwhile.

The bonus round features a fairly standard progressive win multiplier, increasing by +1 per win. However, things get more interesting when you factor in the Samba feature, which can also trigger during free spins. With a decent multiplier, things can get tense when you start racking up Samba queen symbols. It’s only too bad that the max win is too low to feel relevant in this day and age, with so many better alternatives to choose from. Samba is a decent slot game to build up your energy for a night out, but not a game for those chasing sizable wins.
