Heist movies, and slots, appeal to the rebellious side of us, as you get to identify with and root for the “bad guys” sticking it to the system. This bank robbery theme certainly appealed more to this reviewer than the wizard theme from the original game, Magician's Secrets, but it cannot be denied that Robber Strike is a reskin job from Pragmatic Play. Stealing the game template for a slot about a bank robbery seems fitting enough though, and perhaps this version will climb higher on the charts, who knows.

The base game isn’t exactly filled to the brim with excitement, but the expanding multiplier wild feature does break up the grind on a somewhat regular basis. It gives you decent top-up wins mostly, which is not unusual, and cracking the 5,000x potential is more likely to happen when the bonus round triggers. The expanding wilds respins FS round is probably your best bet, as the wild multipliers increase and can multiply together. The sticky wilds bonus round is decent as well, and having options is never wrong.

The premium symbols pay between 2 and 50 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and the Wild symbol can land on reels 2 to 6 only. The core function of the wild is to substitute for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins, but wilds can also sometimes expand to cover the full reels during base game play. If this happens, the wild gets a random multiplier value between x2 and x10, and this multiplier boosts all line wins the wild partakes in.

You need at least 3 scatter symbols in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and 4, 5, or 6 triggering scatters pay 20x, 200x, or 2,000x your stake up front, respectively. You’re then taken to a choice screen, where you can go with the Expanding Wilds feature or the Sticky Wilds feature. We will take a closer look at both options below.

The Expanding Wilds Bonus Round comes with 10 free spins, and all wilds that land on reels 3 or 4 will expand to cover the full reel. This starts a Respins feature that does not subtract from your free spins tally, and the feature goes on as long as you keep winning.

The wild multiplier starts at x1, and it increases by +1 per respin. If you have 2 expanded wilds going at the same time, their multipliers are multiplied together if part of the same win. You can also retrigger this bonus round indefinitely by landing 3+ scatters in view.

The Sticky Wilds Bonus Round gives you 8 free spins, and a random pay symbol is selected up front. When the chosen symbol appears on reels 2 to 5, it turns into a wild symbol. All wilds that appear in this bonus round become sticky for the duration of the feature, no matter how they appear. You win +3 extra free spins each time you fill a reel with sticky wilds.

The Bonus Buy menu is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. If eligible, you can purchase the bonus round for 100x the stake, and this lands you between 3 and 6 scatters on the spin that follows. Landing 5 or 6 triggering scatters means that you’re already in profit in other words, and you get to choose between the 2 bonus round options when purchasing the feature as well.

Review Summary

Pragmatic Play churns out so many new slots each year that it’s hard to keep track, and it’s no wonder they sometimes release pure reskin jobs in the hope that a different visual experience does the trick. This is the case with Robber Strike, which is close to identical to Magician's Secrets from 2022. The bank heist theme is nicely done, however, and it might have a stronger appeal than the wizard theme from the original game. You never know in this industry, but we somehow liked this version better at least.

You get the random expanding multiplier wild in the base game, but nothing else happens there. The expanding feature doesn’t hit too often either, but things definitely heat up when you trigger the bonus round. Being able to win up to 2,000x up front is a tad unusual as well, and we enjoyed the expanding wild with increasing multiplier respins bonus round the most. The feature is prolonged per respins session, as the wild multiplier keeps building. It seems like the best option for closing in on the 5,000x potential, and it will be interesting to see if this robbery reskin job fares better than the original game.
