You start outside the pub, as if waiting for your crew to catch up, and the base game offers Random Awards up to a solid 5,000x your stake. This feature triggers at random times when 2 scatters are present, and the bonus round is all about increasing the award meters assigned to each reel. This is done by collecting viking symbols, and everything is accompanied by a jolly soundtrack that will make you thirsty for a few cold ones. Pub Kings is an entertaining release, and the award system is original enough to probably make some waves.

The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3 scatters on reels 1, 3, and 5 at the same time, and this gives you 10 free spins. Each of the 5 viking characters are assigned to a reel during the feature, and all viking symbols are collected in their respective reel meters after each spin. You need 6 collected symbols per reel to activate the lowest level 1 prize, and every 3rd collected symbol after that upgrades the prize to the next level.

When the bonus round comes to an end, the reel/viking with the most collected symbols will pay its associated prize according to the level achieved. If there is a tie between 2 or more reels/vikings, the reel/viking with the highest prize will be paid. There is no way to retrigger the bonus round, and extra spins cannot be won either.

The base game is situated right outside the viking pub, with the peaks of Jotunheimen seen on the left-hand side (or so we assume). The base game offers an elaborate random award system, and it will keep you on your toes each time the feature triggers.

It boils down to getting an award between 2x and 5,000x your stake, however, and the 5,000x win cap hit rate is a decent 1 in 14,084,507 spins. The overall symbol values are pretty high in this game as well, and the bonus round builds up to a climactic finish. It’s fun to have that to look forward to each time, and the system will keep you guessing until the end. The 100x bonus buy reveals the average returns from the feature, however, but overall Pub Kings is a solid, entertaining, and original take on the vikings slot genre.
