It’s hard to decipher the meaning of the title of this game, as Moonshot is neither about astronauts nor about any kind of daring project or endeavor. Instead, you’re taken to some kind of farm in what seems to be Eastern Europe, or perhaps Switzerland, and the game revolves around some kind of strange tea ceremony involving bizarre masked characters. They seem jolly enough despite the spooky appearance, and the folksy soundtrack is upbeat as well.

We have no idea what these people brew their tea with, but it seems to be working, and 3 masked characters perform a strange dance when the bonus round triggers. You get a somewhat complicated golden mask multiplier system, but it can lead to solid payouts in all stages. The bonus round can be upgraded to different levels via mask symbol collection, and this is your best ‘moonshot’ at cracking the 5,000x win cap.

The premium symbols pay between 1.5 and 4 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the top-tier character mask symbol also pays 0.5x for 2 of a kind wins. Wild symbols can land on reels 2 to 5 only, and wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins.

You get Golden Mask Wild symbols as well, and they also appear on reels 2 to 5 only. The Golden Mask symbol will only step in for the top-tier mask symbol, however, and the golden mask wild multiplier increases the more golden masks you land at the same time. You get an x2 or x3 multiplier from 2 or 3 golden mask symbols, respectively, and the multiplier boosts any wins with the top-tier mask symbol.

You trigger the Bonus Round from 3, 4, or 5 coin bag scatters anywhere in sight, and this gives you 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. Both mask symbols and golden mask symbols are collected in the bonus round, and you level up for every 40 mask symbols of any kind that is collected. It works as follows:

• Level 1 - comes with random golden mask multipliers of x1, x2, or x3.
• Level 2 - comes with random golden mask multipliers of x2, x3, and gives you +3 extra spins.
• Level 3 - comes with random golden mask multipliers of x3, and gives you +3 extra spins.

You will remain at the level you have achieved also if you retrigger the bonus round, and this is done by landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 scatters in view. Review Summary

We have seen some strange slots in our time, but Moonshot is up there with the best (or worst) of them. We have no idea what this game is about, but it seems to be some kind of tea drinking ceremony from an obscure slavic tradition we have never heard about. The tea is probably spiced up with some kind of psychedelic, hence the “moonshot” reference, and it was hard to tell whether we liked this game or just enjoyed the novelty of it all.

You get the golden mask multiplier wild feature playing out in the base game, and it can lead to decent payouts once in a while. The bonus round is introduced via a strange dance involving 3 masked characters, and filling the upgrade bottle meter was surprisingly hard. You will probably need to retrigger the bonus round to upgrade it, and getting to level 3 seems like a rare achievement. After the novelty wears off there isn’t all that much to keep players glued, probably, but Moonshot is definitely a game you need to try just for the heck of it.
