Platipus don’t seem to be particularly ambitious, but we certainly enjoy playing most of their games. Given that, we simply couldn’t ignore Fruit Booster, which is a slot that Platipus launched in November 2022. It’s an interesting fruit slot, so let’s take a closer look at everything it has. For starters, there are 8 reels and 8 rows, but there are no paylines in that equation. Instead, Fruit Booster uses Cluster Pays, and you have to connect 5 or more matching symbols to get a win.

There’s no originality to be found in Fruit Booster’s theme, but we do have to give the game’s designers a big thumbs up for how it all looks. There are many slick animations, and it’s all incredibly polished. In short, fruit slots rarely look and feel this good!

Sadly, the theoretical RTP of Fruit Boost is just 95.69%, which is nothing to be excited about.

There are 9 pay symbols in Fruit Boost, and you can look forward to 8 fruit symbols and the game’s top-paying star symbols. For fruits, there are grapes, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, plums, apples, oranges and lemons. It’s worth highlighting that the symbol designs are simply excellent, which makes it all very easy on the eyes.

For special symbols, there are only Upgrade symbols that look like crowns and that can appear anywhere on the reels.

Fruit Boost Slot – Frozen Blocks Feature

Gameplay-wise, we have to start with the Frozen Blocks feature. You’ll trigger it whenever you get a winning Cluster, and it will keep that Cluster frozen for the next spin. In other words, you can keep improving it as you spin further.

Whenever you land an Upgrade symbol on the board, you’ll get to the Power Up feature. This feature will upgrade a random winning block on the screen to a better one.

Finally, there’s the Fruit Boost feature that turns 2x2, 3x3 and 6x6 blocks into Superfruit symbols.

Review Summary

All in all, we have some seriously mixed feelings about Fruit Boost. On one hand, we like how it looks and feels, and we also enjoy its original combination of features. On the other hand, there are no free spins or Cascades, and we reckon that the slot’s math model could’ve been a bit better as well.
