Our Verdict

With their 7x7 series, the 4ThePlayer team is basically attempting to improve upon the winning formula that catapulted Pragmatic Play’s Gates Of Olympus into stardom. Despite 7x7 Thor being very similar to the Greek mythology original, 7x7 Zeus, some improvements have been made to justify this Norse mythology follow-up. However, we’re unsure if the added ante bet and multiplier bonus buy option are enough to win over players, and certainly not in places like the UK, where these features are banned.

The visuals are built around the same formula as the source of inspiration, with Thor replacing Zeus and the backdrop morphed from a cloudy Olympus to a foggy mountain panorama. While the presentation is technically solid, with animated clouds and borealis, it still feels somewhat like a movie set facade, lacking true heart or substance. I understand that imbuing an online slot game with a deeper sense of immersion and character is challenging. However, when comparing 7x7 Thor to a robust release like Valhall Gold, the difference in depth, strength, and concreteness is stark.

The soundtrack in 7x7 Thor was also a bit of a turn-off, at least in my humble opinion, as it fails to truly live up to the epic vibe the theme tries to pull off. On that note, 4ThePlayer should allow players to turn off the soundtrack in their games while keeping the game sounds. And while you’re at it, why not also include a turbo spin option? Sure, you can hammer the spin button to keep up the pace, but that’ll wear out your trigger finger sooner rather than later.

To end on a positive note, I do like the grid expansion feature that makes the 7x7 series stand out from other Gates of Olympus copycats. I also appreciate the doublemax multiplier system, which can lead to solid wins before you know it. Both additions are highly appreciated in the bonus round, when the expansion and multiplier persist, and you can land solid payouts of up to 10,149x your stake. Overall, 7x7 Thor is a decent sibling release to 7x7 Zeus, with a few buy extras for eligible players.
