The concept of goblins dressed up as bank employees is bound to bring a smile on your face, and Kalamba has clearly been inspired by Gringotts Wizarding Bank from the Harry Potter universe. You can place bets between 50p and £30 per spin here, and this somewhat narrow bet range is probably due to the rather extreme potential. The math model is overall solid, with an above average RTP and high volatility.

You will benefit from unique modifiers like Paired Reels, Scatter Split and Expand n Lock, as you take a crack at the Goblins Treasure Vault. The animations are well-crafted, and the game feels very alive and dynamic. The symbol values are not all that high though, as the top goblin pays only 4x your stake for 5 on a payline. You will see 3 different color meters on the right-hand side in this game, and each is associated with a different color gemstone. These gemstones (green, red and blue) can land on any given spin, and they will then be collected in the corresponding meter. You need to collect 20 gems of any of the colors to fill a meter, and this gives you 5 “Collection Spins” as follows:

• 20 green gems collected gives you the Scatter Split feature - a symbol is randomly selected, and it will pay no matter where it lands. The symbol might also count as 2 or 3 symbols when it lands.
• 20 red gems collected gives you the Paired Reels feature - randomly selected reels will synchronize to land matching symbols.
• 20 blue gems selected gives you the Locked Symbols feature - a randomly selected symbol will be added to the top of the reels in equally randomly chosen reel positions.

You can also trigger the bonus round the traditional way here, namely by landing at least 3 scatters on the same spin. You will get an initial 2x scatter win, and then you get to choose between the 3 features described above. You now get 7, 8 or 10 free spins however, when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters, respectively.

Landing the +1 symbol during the feature adds 1 extra free spin to your tally, and you can also purchase the bonus round via the HyperBonus feature. Review Summary

Goblins & Gemstones features goblins in classy suits, which is both hilarious and original. They are supposed to look like bank tellers and managers of the gemstone vault, and Kalamba has done a great job developing this concept. The gemstone meters keep you motivated in the base game, while you get the extra benefit of also being able to trigger the 3 free spins features the traditional way.

There are a few drawbacks with the bonus round modifiers however, as they can seem a bit more promising than what they actually deliver. The Synced Reels don’t jump around from spin to spin, for example, and the Locked Symbols are also fixed in the same position. Further, getting a triple Split scatter symbol doesn’t lead to a payout, as you still need 3 to win. These are minor details however, as Kalamba has made a volatile and fun title with a massive 38,890x potential.
