Dragoness is a fiery online slot released by RubyPlay in 2020 with crafty artwork and spectacular animation effects. The game is packed with nudging wilds, jackpots, and a couple of bonus minigames. Furthermore, the provider has added a brand-new, for the time back then, Instarapid Win mechanic that might draw the attention of slot enthusiasts. Dragoness pays as usual for a line-powered online slot, and your goal is to land 3 to 5 identical symbols on an active payline. Combinations must start from the leftmost reel and continue to the right. Most of the symbols can land stacked, which will make your task easier. The paytable includes a couple of wild symbols - Fireball and Dragoness. They substitute for all the regulars and have special powers, which I’ll explain later.

Dragoness Wild is 1x3 and does its job when in view fully or partially. If you land 3, 4, or 5 on a line, you’ll win 0.75x, 2.50x, and 5x the bet. Red Dragons are next in the paytable, paying from 0.35x to 3x, while Blue Dragons and Green Dragons award between 0.30x and 2.50x. The medium-valued symbols are decorated horns and dragon eggs - 0.20x to 2x, and the low-valued ones are multicolored tokens - 0.15x to 1x the bet.

The Dragoness RTP rate is generous - 96.33% and the slot is characterized by medium to high levels of volatility. Bets vary from €0.20 to €30 per spin, and players can base their strategies on a total of 9 stake levels. RubyPlay has limited the Hit Frequency rate to 25.20% and the Dragoness max win is 5,500x the bet.

Instarapid Win

An extra reel is placed in a horizontal position on top of the main grid and spins along with the rest, but from right to left. It shows a variety of cash prizes, Jackpot Wheel, or Free Games. Fireball Wilds can activate those rewards if any appear on the reels in full. In the base game, the positions above reels 2 and 4 are locked. During the Free Games, they are unlocked, and all the prizes are especially crafted for that particular bonus round.

Wild Nudge Feature

Wild Nudge Feature may activate randomly on any spin and cause one or many nudges of the Dragoness Wild or Fireball Wild. The result will always be better than the movement, but it does not guarantee a win. Both wild symbols can move upward or downwards with 1 to 3 positions. During my test, every nudge was followed by a cash win!

Free Games Bonus

Free Games starts when a Fireball lands on a reel above which is the respective prize. You will get 10 free spins and another 5 every time the same happens during the minigame. Theme & Graphics

Dragoness features a Fantasy theme, which seems to be one of the provider’s favorites. Here, the story tells about a dragoness coming from a far away land where they “roam free and magic blossoms”. She is a dragon rider and the last from a long line, and she raised 3 dragons - red, blue, and green. If you are a GOT fan, then you can easily think of another person with golden hair and a pack of dragons.

Well, the Dragoness of RubyPlay might be a Mother of Dragons, but she ain’t Stormborn, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and The Unburnt. So, the similarities end here, but the artwork is magnificent. RubyPlay has done an excellent job, just like in other Fantasy slots, like Royal Griffin and Guardians of the Lake. I particularly like the moment when the dragon flies above the grid and when the audio set changes to a more epic one.

So, when you change it, the set will display different rewards. That shouldn’t affect your base strategy, and it’s better to play with one than just wonder. Dragons are an essential part of fantasy novels, tales, movies, series, … and online slots. There are hundreds of titles inspired by these magic creatures or including at least one of them. And that goes way back before 2020 and RubyPlay’s Dragoness. If you are looking for highly-rated alternatives, you should start with Dragon Champions by Playtech.

Reel Keeper and Dragon Kingdom Eyes of Fire of Fire also offer rather unique gameplay with plenty of bonus features. Red Tiger and Pragmatic Play have packed them well with progressive jackpots and multipliers. Dragoness, on the other hand, feels more intuitive and has better artwork, in my opinion. It comes with a solid win cap (5,500x) and a generous RTP rate.

Instarapid Win is a rather curious mechanic as it displays prizes in order and does not change them on every spin. Thus, you have 4 other rounds to win after it has appeared on reel 5 for the first time. The rest from the bonus script is standard - free spins with enhanced rewards and a jackpot-pick feature. So, if you like the Mother of Dragons concept and feature-rich slots are your thing, Dragoness is worth the ride!
