They have the getaway all figured out with a designated driver, and they also have a hacker already working to crack the system. Of course, they have muscle in case things go sideways, and a femme fatale as the decoy. Pragmatic Play’s Cyberheist City pays homage to the glorious 80s with its neon-drenched visuals and synthwave soundtrack, but you have to look past the fact that crypto emerged a few decades later.

Pros and Cons of Cyberheist City

Our Verdict

We are not saying this is the case, but on a list of developers who would be most likely to implement AI to make slot games, Pragmatic Play is pretty close to the top. Whether AI was involved or not, Cyberheist City still has that generic feel to it, but then again, so do many pre-AI Pragmatic Play titles. It’s like the game was spawned from a prompt that went something like: “Mix Gates Of Olympus mechanics with synthwave 80s Miami vibe and cyberpunk crypto bank heist job”.

The mix is a tad incongruent, since Bitcoin and cryptocurrency came decades after the last mullets of the 80s had largely gone extinct. Of course, Pragmatic Play, or any developer for that matter, cannot be expected to reinvent the reel with every release, and Cyberheist City is a decent enough game, taken for what it is. The soundtrack is pleasant enough to tug on some nostalgic heartstrings, together with the hazy purple neon visuals.

Perhaps an action-packed intro and some cut scenes could’ve breathed some life into these characters and made the experience more engaging. Heist movies are usually fun, and you sense there is a story potential here that feels largely unfulfilled. A bit more storytelling elements, as Nolimit City excels at, is something that could lift many Pragmatic Play games to a new level. Anyway, I’m just thinking out loud here.

Tumbling win sequences with occasional multiplier symbols to boost the win keep you going in the base game. Theoretically, you can take down larger scores also here, but in practice, it’s more likely to happen in the bonus round. The feature doesn’t trigger all that often without the ante bet, though, but when that global multiplier keeps growing without resetting, it can lead to pulse-raising moments for sure. Not least in the super version of the feature, which is even more likely to take you closer to the decent 5,000x win cap.
