Pragmatic Play’s Smugglers Cove is a buccaneer-themed contribution that sticks out due to a higher-than-usual 10,000x potential, and a somewhat innovative twist that makes this top prize available also in the base game.

The soundtrack is perhaps the most exciting thing about the pirate theme though, as the characters and the overall visual presentation is lacking in swashbuckling bravado and punch. The default base game top prize of 1,000x isn’t all that exciting, but the Super Coin can land on reel 5 to make things far more interesting at any time. Of course, the 10,000x top prize can land at any given bonus round spin, and it will be interesting to see if this effort is enough to dethrone 8 Golden Skulls of Holly Roger.

Review Summary

The pirate theme is far from original, but it’s decently done, and it works okay mostly thanks to the excellent soundtrack. The characters kind of lack personality and depth though, and there is an overall generic vibe hanging over this Pragmatic Play production. That being said, there are some interesting twists to the otherwise run-of-the-mill scatter jackpot concept, and this might be enough to entice a certain crowd.

On rare occasions, the Super Coin Wild (or Super Coin) may boost your scatter prize win by up to x10, which means that the solid 10,000x potential can be cracked at all times. This is even more likely in the bonus round however, since the maxed out top prize is always available. Technically, Smugglers Cove amounts to a pretty decent installment in the popular genre, but it’s a bit too superficial to make a lasting impression.
