The scatter win trend started by Gameburger’s 9 Masks Of Fire continues, and Legend of the Sword is Snowborn’s 3rd installment in the genre, even though they have only 7 releases under their belt, so far. The King Arthur and ‘Sword in the Stone’ theme is nicely done, but winning the 10,000 top prize is probably as hard as pulling the Excalibur from the stone, as seen on the left-hand side.

The regular symbols, and the 3,125 pay all-ways system, is mostly for show, as landing anything of significance seems almost impossible with all the stacks of ‘scatter blockers’ that keep raining down per spin. The multiplier that increases per collected scatter in the bonus round can put a bandaid on this to a certain degree, but we don’t recommend this game unless you’re aiming for the scatter prizes.

The gold coin ‘W’ wild steps in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combinations, but the wild holds no value of its own. The premium symbols pay between 4 and 10 times your stake when you land 5 on a payline, but what you really want to see is as many Excalibur Scatters on the reels as possible.

You need at least 5 Excalibur Scatters on the same spin to land an instant cash prize, and this lowest tier on the cash prize ladder awards only 2x your stake. Land 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 scatters however, and you’ll instantly be awarded with scatter prizes of 5, 10, 100, 1,000 or 10,000 times your stake, respectively.

The Camelot Bonus Round is triggered when you land 3 Camelot bonus symbols anywhere on a base game spin. Excalibur Scatters are collected during the feature, and you start with 3 free spins. Each scatter you land resets the free spins tally to 3 again, and you need to collect 10 scatters in total to climb to the top of the prize ladder and win 10,000x your stake.

What’s more, each scatter you land also increases the win multiplier by +1, and this multiplier applies to all regular wins during the bonus round. The multiplier does not apply to the scatter wins in other words, and the feature goes on indefinitely until you run out of free spins.

Review Summary

Microgaming partners are churning out new Scatter Jackpot games like there is no tomorrow, and Legend of the Sword is far from the worst effort we’ve seen since 9 Mask of Fire started the whole frenzy. The Excalibur Sword scatters tend to land in stacks of 3 or 4 on the middle reel almost all the time though, effectively blocking most regular winning chances despite the pay all-ways system and 3,125 win ways.

The base game is mostly a sinking ship grind in other words, and top-up scatter wins above 10x are few and far between. The progressive scatter collect multiplier in the bonus round helps to boost those few regular wins you might see, but you’ll most likely need at least 9 scatters to win anything of significance in this game. The 10,000x max prize is certainly better than many similar games though, including the 2,000x top prize you get in the popular 9 Mask of Fire.
