Peter & Sons is certainly an unusual name for a slot developer, but the upcoming Yggdrasil YGS Masters apprentice has already proven themselves with an equally unique, cartoonish visual style. Johnan Legendarian is obviously a tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role in Conan The Barbarian, and the animated, brutish-looking parody-version of him is found on the left-hand side of the reels.

It’s refreshing to not have to visit yet another dusty Egyptian tomb, and the bonus round comes with a somewhat unique twist also. You get an extra chosen symbol per retrigger, and you will also collect scatter pairs to trigger a Super version of the bonus round on occasions. The symbol values are lower than usual here though, and Johnan Legendarian himself is conspicuous by his absence in the paytable.

The wild-eyed Wizard-looking guy is the scatter/wild in this game, and he will thus step in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos. Land at least 3 scatter/wilds on the same spin, and you trigger the bonus round with 10 free spins.

Per usual with book type slots, a pay symbol is randomly chosen up front to be the special expanding symbol. The special symbol is highlighted on the reels, and it will expand to give you a win as long as you land enough instances of it. The expanding symbols don’t need to land adjacent to create a win, but you need at least 2 premium symbols or 3+ royal symbols.

There is one more twist to the tale here, and this one has not been seen before in a book slot. Whenever you land only 2 scatters, they will be collected in a meter below the reel set. When you’ve collected 385 scatter pairs (which amounts to 770 points on the progress bar), you trigger the Super Free Spins feature.

It’s basically the same as the regular bonus round, but now you get +10 free spin when you retrigger the feature, instead of the tally simply resetting to 10 again. You can expect the Super Free Spins to trigger once every 2,115 spins on average. It can perhaps be considered as a dessert feature, coming after the main meal has been consumed for a while.

Being an upcoming studio in Yggdrasil’s YGS Masters Program, Peter & Sons sound more like a law firm than a slot developer. This hasn’t stopped them from creating a visually impressive ‘Book of’ slot with Johnan Legendarian. Still, the tally only resetting to 10 free spins instead of offering +10 spins is somewhat of a drawback here, even if you get the latter once in a blue moon via the Super Free Spins.

Johnan is totally missing from the paytable here, which is a bit strange. You would expect him to be the top paying symbol. The symbols you do find are of lower value than what you might be used to from other book slots. Still, the overall potential of 5,000x is in line with what you might expect. Similar twists have been seen before in Ra clones, but most copycat slots don’t come with such a unique, distinct and refreshing visual style.
