We’re unsure whether or not the arrival of the Gold Pile™ Jackpot series means that Playtech/Rarestone’s lengthy Fire Blaze™ Jackpot series is finally being faded out. Gold Pile: Tigers Pride is only the second game in this saga so far, so time will tell. The Jackpot feature is tied in with the golden 5th reel here, which is somewhat different from the Hold & Spin Fire Blaze feature.

The only real difference from the previous title, Gold Pile: Toltec Treasure, is found in the bonus round. This mirrors what we’ve become very used to from the Fire Blaze series, and we highly expect the Gold Pile series to follow in its footsteps. This is good for those who enjoy a bit of predictability, but if you dislike one of these games, you pretty much dislike them all.

The wild symbol looks like a paw made of jewels, and it will step in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combos. It also pays 80x your stake for 5 on a payline, which is a far more than the regular pay symbols.

Reel 5 comes with an ornamented golden frame, and you will see gold bars on top. On the left-hand side is a Gold Meter, and you can use the up and down arrows to adjust the “gold percentage” you want to play with. You will increase the gold meter in increments of 10 % per gold bar added on top of reel 5, and this also increases your stake with 1x to 10x.

The higher the gold percentage, the higher is your chances of landing the special golden symbols on reel 5. Set it to 100 %, and you will only land golden symbols. You will also land the tiger scatter however, and this is not a golden symbol.

If you land 5 symbols in a winning combo, including a golden symbol on reel 5 and a wild symbol, you win either the Mini or Maxi Jackpots. The Mini Jackpot of 40x is won if the 5 matching symbols are low-value royals, while the Maxi jackpot of 160x is won if the 5-of-a-kind combo consists of premium symbols.

If you land a 5-of-a-kind combo with a golden symbol on reel 5, but no wild symbols, you trigger the Grand Chase feature (the feature can also be triggered by landing 5 wilds on a win line, with a golden wild on reel 5). Reel 1 to 4 will become frozen in place, and you get 3 respins on reel 5. Only golden symbols and Grand symbols will land on reel 5, and the triggering reel position is framed.

Landing a golden symbol in the framed position means that you win either the Mini or the Maxi Jackpot, depending on triggering win line symbols (royals or premiums). However, if you land the Grand Jackpot symbol in the framed position, you win the fixed Grand Jackpot worth 4,000x your stake.

Finally, you trigger the bonus round by landing 3 tiger scatters anywhere on the same spin. You will first get an initial scatter win up to 100x for 5 scatters, and then you’ll be granted 8 free spins. You can also retrigger the feature with 4 or 8 new spins by landing 2 or 3 scatters on a free spin. The Grand Chase feature and the Gold Pile jackpots can be triggered from within the bonus round.

Nothing much happened for us in the base game, so we have only included the bonus round in our highlights video this time. We land some pretty decent wins from the free spins feature though, and you can see how it all plays out by hitting the play button.

Review Summary

Gold Pile: Tigers Pride is pretty similar to the first game in this series (Toltec Treasure), except for the theme and the simpler bonus round. The free spins feature plays out pretty much like the base game here, and what you’re really hoping for is the Grand Chase feature. This is how you can win the big jackpot of 4,000x your stake, while the regular symbol payouts offer at most 300x for a screen full of the green gemstone gold ring.

This whole concept reminds us of another Playtech/Rarestone series, namely the Fire Blaze Jackpots saga. You can therefore expect plenty more titles, where the jackpot concept and the math model is similar. The theme will change per game, of course, and there will be different tweaks to the bonus round. At least this is our prediction, based on our experience with the Fire Blaze games.
