Most people have heard about Poseidon, the god of the sea, but Triton is far less known. He’s something as rare as a ‘merman’, meaning half man and half fish, and he’s the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. He acted as a kind of ‘bottom of the sea’ deity, most of the time overshadowed by his powerful father. He was still popular and worshipped however, and now Microgaming partner, Foxium, have decided to honor him with an online slot.

This hasn’t really happened since 2015, when Inspired released the less-than-memorable Legend of Triton. The animated sea floor backdrop is nicely done, but the symbols make the game look kind of dated and cheap.

The Mermaid Wild can land anywhere, and this symbol substitutes for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combos. The wild is also the most valuable symbol in the game, awarding 25x your stake for 5-oak wins. The regular premiums pay between 6 and 15 x your stake for the same.

You need at least 6 Triton symbols anywhere in view to land an instant scatter jackpot prize. You can see the prizes on display above the reels, and 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 or 15 Triton scatters pay 2, 4, 7, 14, 20, 35, 60, 150, 400 or 2,000 times your stake, respectively. The scatter jackpots can also be won during the bonus round.

You need 3 bonus wheel scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger the Bonus Round. A bonus wheel will then spin, and it awards between 7 and 15 free spins. A second wheel is called Triton’s Favour, and it will reduce the amount of Triton Scatters needed to win cash prizes by 1 to 5.

With maximum luck, the top-tier 2,000x scatter jackpot can thus be won with only 10 Triton scatters in view during the bonus round. All prizes thus require less scatters to be won during the feature, and you can retrigger the bonus round by landing 3 scatters on the same free spin. You then get the same amount of extra spins as you originally got from the bonus wheel.

Finally, the Triton’s Fortune feature can trigger at any time, and it will be announced by a powerful voice that’s hard to miss. The feature awards a random amount of Triton scatters to the grid, increasing your chances of landing a scatter jackpot prize.

Review Summary

After the very solid Cossacks the Wild Hunt, which has become Foxium’s biggest success release so far, we were certainly curious about their next effort. Gods of Seas Triton's Fortune comes across as a bit “low-budget” in the visual department, and it’s basically yet another 9 Masks of Fire copycat with a twist. We’ve seen plenty of that from Microgaming partners, and others, and we don’t think there’s enough here to make waves.

The 2,000x top-tier prize is fairly standard for this genre, and you need more scatters to land than usual to crack it. Fair enough, the number of required scatters are reduced in the bonus round, but even with maximum luck you’ll still need 1 more scatter to win the top prize than what’s needed in 9 Masks of Fire. This could have been justified if the top prize was significantly higher, but that’s unfortunately not the case.
