The cartoonish, Chaplinesque slapstick charm is still running strong though, and you get a booty-shaking Cleopatra by your side. Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra feels very alive because of all the animations and antics going on at all times, and different modifiers trigger on a very regular basis.

The retro visual presentation adds to the charm, and we also like how this series has evolved. Play’n Go could have easily made more of the same, but they’ve instead chosen to do something brand new for each installment. This is a full-blown grid slot experience, something this developer does well. Everything comes to a head in the bonus round, where each spin triggers the Cleo’s Columns modifier, and the non-resetting progressive multiplier can go as high as x10.

You win by landing 5 to 15+ matching symbols in a cluster anywhere on the grid, and all winning symbols are removed. New and/or existing symbols will drop down to fill the gaps, and this process goes on as long as you keep winning. The premium hieroglyph symbols pay between 20x and 500x for 15+ in a cluster, and you have 3 modifiers to help you out.

Before we get to those however, we should mention that there is a win multiplier active in all stages of the game. It starts at x1, and the value is upgraded per 3 consecutive cascades. It thus goes from x1 to x2, and finally x3 at the most during base game play.

Flying Scarab Wilds may land across the grid at random times, and this feature awards 5 to 8 wilds whenever it triggers. The wilds step in for all regular pay symbols to help you complete winning combos, but they hold no value of their own.

The Serpent’s Trail feature can be initiated by Cleopatra herself at random times, but only after non-winning spins. You’ll then see a snake slither its way across several columns, and the affected symbols are either removed or transformed into the same symbol type.

A modifier you will see fairly often is Cleo’s Columns. This synchronizes two columns, so they both show the same symbols initially. The Charlie Mega Symbol may appear initially when the feature triggers, or after cascades. The 2x2 symbol remains in place for the cascading sequence, and adjacent low value symbols are removed. New symbols drop down to fill the gaps, and the Charlie Mega Symbol turns wild in the end.

The Bonus Round is triggered when you land 3+ Cleopatra Scatters anywhere in the same cascading sequence. This awards 8 free spins, but you get +4 extra spins on top of that for every triggering scatter above the minimum of 3. The base game win multiplier is carried over into the feature, and it still increases by +1 per 3 consecutive cascades.

The big difference is that it now can go as high as x10, and it also does not reset between free spins. You trigger the Cleo’s Columns feature on every bonus round spin, but you don’t always get the Charlie Mega Symbol. You win +1 extra spin per scatter that lands during the feature, and up to 150 free spins are possible.
