What are the bonus features?

This is one of those games that can sound a bit complicated when you read about them, and the bonus features are definitely unusual in Twisted Turbine slot. We will do our best to clarify everything for you here.

The simplest feature to understand is the classic Avalanche, or Cascading Wins, feature. Winning symbols are removed from the reels and replaced by new symbols, and this process continues as long as you keep landing new winning combos.

Both the red robot (on top) and the blue robot (at the bottom) have a Turbine Robot meter. You fill the respective meters by landing 2 consecutive wins with the same color symbols (all symbols are either red or blue). Filling a Turbine Meter also gives you a credit win of 1x, and filling the bottom meter will rotate the grid by 180 degrees.

Now the bottom robot (which is the blue one at the start of the game) will be the top robot, and vice versa. The spinning of the reel set also increases the so-called rotation multiplier. This multiplier has 4 levels, and goes from 1x to 2x, 4x, 10x and 20x at the highest level.

When the cascading wins sequence comes to an end, the multiplier you have achieved will be applied to the sum you’ve racked up in the display below each of the robots. This also means that the multiplier is reset to 1x again, as you start a new round.

The 200 Spins Twisted Turbine Experience

There is something transformerish about the robots in this game, and Fantasma has managed to breath life into them in a charming way. We looked forward to seeing how this strange creation would play out with our 200 spins test session, and we decided to go with a moderate bet level of £4 per spin at first.

Make no mistake about it, you will get plenty of dead spins in the base game here. The volatility is high, and the payouts are pretty small from the rather low-value symbols. Unless you get the multiplier going, you are basically a sinking ship here. This was the case for us at least, and we really struggled getting the darn thing to rotate.

We had a few smaller credit wins of around 4x our stake which made the red robot smile, but it was hardly enough to make us exercise any facial muscles. At a certain point we decided to up our game a little, and switched to a stake of £100 per spin. This didn’t seem to help at first, but then we suddenly triggered the bonus round.

We had 10 free spins to play out now, and the multiplier meter went all the way up to a juicy 50x. Things started out pretty well, as we got 3 cascades in a row, and managed to rotate the grid by landing 2 blue wins. All this happened on the very first free spin, and we rotated the grid once again and won a total of 13.2x our stake with help from the 5x multiplier.

Rotating the reel set and increasing the multiplier seems a lot easier in the bonus round, and we kept getting smaller wins from the 3x multiplier as the reel set rotated once every other free spin for a small while. We ran into some dead spins after that, and yet another rotating win at the very last spin. All in all, we got away with 37.6x our stake, which was not all that impressive, but we will probably be back for more at a future crossroad.

Review Summary

Twisted Turbine is cleverly designed and put together, and it’s really all about drawing those cascading wins out as much as you can. This is easier said than done however, and the base game can be a bit frustrating when things don’t go your way. We certainly got our fair share of dead spins in the base game, but things got a bit better when the bonus round was triggered.

The credit wins from each of the 2 robots will not reset between free spins, but the multiplier meter still resets once a cascade is over. This is a bit frustrating too, and big wins are in no way guaranteed from the bonus round. The pace of the game is also somewhat slow, and this is certainly not a game for players who just want a traditional slot experience. If you enjoy somewhat intricate games with the potential for long-winding cascades and big wins, you should probably give Twisted Turbine a try.
