Starblast game review
Starblast is a rather obvious copycat of NetEnt’s mega success, Starburst, and it was launched by Play’n Go 20 March 2019. The big difference is that Starblast slot is a highly volatile game with a high potential. Other than that, most everything is very similar to Starburst, including graphics, bonus feature and title. It’s all about the Expanding sticky wild re-spins with multiplying multipliers, and you can win up to 4000x your stake here.
Starblast RTP, variance & technical data
Before we take a closer look at all the fun stuff on Starblast, we thought you might like the game’s most relevant technical data revealed:
- RTP: 96.6%
- Volatility/Variance: High
- Layout: 5x3
- Paylines: 10
- Bonus features: Expanding sticky wild re-spins with multiplying multipliers
- Bets: 0.1 to 100
- Max wins (coins): 400 000
Starblast has an RTP of 96.6%, which is slightly above the industry average. Please also note that this is a highly volatile game that scores 10 out of 10 in Play’n Go’s own volatility score. You really cannot get more volatile than that in other words. Take your precautions, and adjust your bankroll and bet level to handle the dry spells that are bound to come between the bigger wins.
If it was not obvious from first sight, we can certainly confirm that Starblast is Play’n Go’s attempt to steal some thunder from the ever-popular and legendary Starburst. The title is similar, the game looks very similar and it comes with an identical bonus feature; namely expanding sticky wild re-spins with multiplying multipliers.
Many people don’t know this, but Starburst is actually very similar to Novomatic’s Power Stars from 2008, so NetEnt cannot scream too high about “plagiarism”. Starblast takes advantage of the fact that NetEnt’s super success is a very low variance game with low potential. Starblast slot is the exact opposite. It comes with extremely high volatility, and a very high potential. This way players who like Starburst, but wish for higher volatility and potential, now have a great alternative. A clever move by Play’n Go, and it will be exciting to see how successful their devious little scheme becomes.
Starblast bonus features
This is a rather simple game, and does not come with all that many bonus features. We’ll take a closer look at what little you can find here, and remember that Starblast does not hide in any way that its big inspiration is the mighty popular Starburst from Netent.
If you land wild symbols on the 3 middle reels 2, 3 and 4, it will expand to cover the whole reel. This also trigger the Wild Re-Spins feature where the expanded wild(s) are frozen in place as you get a re-spin.
If you land a new wild on the re-spin it too will expand and another re-spin is given. You can maximum get 3 re-spins with all 3 middle reels covered with expanded wilds, and the combined multipliers of the wilds can boost your winnings with up to 9x.
Starblast free spins
Just like the game it’s inspired by, Starblast slot does not come with a free spins feature. This game is truly all about the expanding wild re-spins with multipliers, and nothing else. Since re-spins is kind of similar to free spins, we don’t miss this feature too much, and we understand that it needs to be similar to big brother Starburst.
Starblast jackpot (max win)
There is no progressive or local jackpot to be won on Starblast, but you can certainly take home some decent payouts from this game. The max win is 4000x your stake, and this amounts to £400,000. Not too bad for a high variance game, and it’s wise for Starblast slot to position itself as a high variance, high potential alternative to Starburst.
Starblast mobile & tablet
You can play Starblast slot on both mobile and tablet, of course. Anything else would have been a great surprise if the game wants to compete with the popular NetEnt title. Anyway, this is a simple game that looks great on any handheld device. You can play on your Android devices, or on your iPhone and iPad.
It would not surprise us the least if NetEnt soon launches a Max version of Starburst, and if that happens we really don’t know what destiny holds for this blatant copy with almost the same title. Starblast slot is a good idea in that it fills the untapped niche of a high variance, high potential version of Starburst. However, it’s a bit of a cheap shoot too, in that Play’n Go so blatantly are copying one of NetEnt’s biggest success stories. We don’t know if there is any legal ramifications of this, but a max version of Starburst would probably be the end of the Starblast saga overnight.
- Highly volatile, high potential Starburst copy
- Win up to 4000x your stake
- Expanding sticky wild re-spins with multiplying multipliers
- RTP is slightly higher than on Starburst
- Could have been less of a blatant copycat
- Could have included a free spins feature
