We quite enjoyed the first installment, Treasure Tracks, in what looks to become a series from Gold Coin Studios’, and Smooth Sailing follows up with more of the same. This time you’re headed towards the open sea however, but it wouldn’t have hurt if they’d thrown a few base game modifiers into the mix in this second effort.

It is what it is however, and you get to enjoy the same Connectify Pays mechanic when the bonus round triggers. It’s all about completing boat parts this time, not trains, and the top prize yellow boat pays up to 6,000x your stake. Enhanced royal symbols award decent “consolation prizes” along with incomplete boats. Overall, a decent follow-up, but we hope for a bit more base game action next time.

You can land wild symbols anywhere in the base game only, and they step in for regular pay symbols to help you complete winning combos. The wilds are also the highest paying symbols in the game, awarding 1,000x your stake for 5 of a kind. Regular premiums pay between 25 and 50 x your stake for the same, while the royal symbols are upgraded 10x in value in the bonus round.

There are 2 ways into the Connectify Pays Bonus Round. If you play with the Gold Coin Bet active you basically get another set of triggering scatters, which effectively doubles your bonus round chances. You will pay 1.5x more per spin however, and either way you trigger the bonus round by landing 3 ship scatters. The same happens if you land 3 ticket scatters with the Gold Coin Bet active.

The Connectify Pays system defines the Bonus Round, and you’ll see a list of boats with prize values on the left-hand side. The top-tier boat prizes are split into 5 parts, and you thus need to complete a boat with 5 boat symbols along the same payline to win the corresponding prize. The boat part on reel 5 can contain an x2 multiplier, and this doubles the payout.

The royal symbols are upgraded in the bonus round, awarding 10 times as much as in the base game. You can thus win up to 75x your stake for a 5-oak payout. 5 red boats award 250x your stake, while 5 blue boats pay 50x your stake. Uncompleted boats pay smaller prizes, while completing the 5-segment yellow boat awards 6,000x your stake.

Review Summary

Not all that much happens in the base game, so Smooth Sailing is a pretty fitting name in that regard. Occasional wild wins will land to keep you afloat, but this game is really all about the Connectify bonus round system. Visually, it looks kind of dated, but not necessarily in a bad way. You will get into holiday mode playing this though, and the bright colors are uplifting.

Completing boats to win prizes is kind of fun, like it was with the trains in Treasure Tracks. You will seldom get the 5-segment prizes though, but it certainly helps that the royal symbols are worth 10 times more during the feature. The 6,000x top prize is pretty solid, and up to 1,500x your stake can be landed from a screen full of A or K symbols in the bonus round.
