Inspired Gaming has seen decent success in the fishing genre with their late 2021 release Big Fishing Fortune, and Go Fish! sticks out because it’s not really about fishing or the classic reel ‘em bonus round. Fish, and other symbols, are sluiced through the wrap-around reel that frames the regular spinning 3x3 grid in the middle, and wins of 5x or above can be gambled to win free spins.

Fish swim by here and there, but keep your eyes peeled for the big Whale, as this majestic creature may suddenly turn to swim in front of the reels to award the Whale Whirlpool modifier. A Puffer Fish Wild can expand up to 3x3 to give you a guaranteed win, and the bonus round comes with a Water Wheel that can dish out 5 different bonus extras. This is a somewhat unusual fishing slot from Inspired, but well worth checking out.

The premium fish symbols pay between 2.5 and 7.5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, with the shark as the top-tier symbol. Winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic, making room for new symbols to appear in the gaps. This process repeats as long as you keep winning, and you also have Mystery Symbols that turn into a random pay symbol when they appear.

Sometimes you’ll see a Whale swim behind the reels, and if it returns to swim in front of the reels the Whale Whirlpool modifier is triggered. This whirlpool generates a new symbol combination that may or may not lead to a win.

A Puffer Fish Wild may appear on the central 3x3 grid at random times, and it steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations. If it does not generate a win, it may puff itself up to a 2x2 sized wild, or even a 3x3 sized wild if the 2x2 size didn’t amount to anything. If you manage to fill the 3x3 grid with this puffer fish wild you’re guaranteed a win.

You need 3+ game logo scatters anywhere in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and you get a minimum of 8 free spins. Every triggering scatter above the minimum of 3 awards +2 extra spins, up to 42 at the most. An unlimited win multiplier comes into play during the feature, and it increases by +1 per cascading win.

Review Summary

It’s nice to see a different take on the fishing genre than yet another Fishin' Frenzy copycat release, and Go Fish! comes with a charming selection of subsea creatures. The jellyfish bobbing up and down on the left-hand side gets a bit annoying though, and so does the repetitive soundtrack that cannot be turned off independent of the game sounds. These are minor details however, but still worth pointing out.

We’re not huge fans of the gambling features, but it can be tempting to gamble any mediocre win to get free spins. The Whale and Puffer Fish modifiers are both charming and potentially effective, especially if you get a 3x3 wild going, and the Water Wheel livens up the bonus round with some nice extras. The 12,500x potential is very solid as well, but the same cannot be said about the below par 95.01 % RTP. Overall, this is a pretty decent release from Inspired, but it’s not without its flaws.
