Alice herself is seemingly taking a break from following the White Rabbit, as she’s seen reading peacefully in the garden instead of tumbling down yet another rabbit hole. The White Rabbit Wild steals the show in this Relax Gaming release however, and it appears in the regular 1x1 size on each and every spin in all stages of the game. Plunderland is hard to get a handle on without reading about it first, but it’s not as complicated as it may sound or seem at first.

Basically, you want the White Rabbit Wild to reach the center position ‘Hot Spot’ it’s always moving towards per tumble win, as this increases the wild size and also the multiplier when it’s part of a win. This feat can be repeated in longer tumble sequences, and neither the achieved hot spot size, nor the wild multiplier, resets in the bonus round. You’ll get plenty of frustrating reset moments in Plunderland for sure, and it might take a little getting used to before this thing quite literally “grows on you”.

You need between 5 and 32 matching symbols in a cluster anywhere on the 7x7 grid to win, and this awards between 150 to 500 x your stake for 32+ premium symbol wins. All winning symbols are then removed via the Tumble feature, while new and/or existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps. This repeats as long as you keep winning.

The White Rabbit Wild plays a highly central part in all stages of this game, and it substitutes for regular pay symbols like wilds usually do. You get the White Rabbit Wild on every single spin, and it moves ever closer to the central position ‘Hot Spot’ per tumble win. The Wild cannot move diagonally however, so it moves only vertically or horizontally depending on the starting position.

When the White Rabbit Wild reaches the center Hot Spot position, the size of the wild is increased from 1x1 to 2x2. When part of a win the wild is removed via the tumbling mechanic, and it reappears as 1x1 wild again. If the wild reaches the hot spot once again in the same tumbling sequence, the size increases to 3x3, and it can enlarge itself to 5x5 this way at the most. Also, the wild win multiplier increases by +1 per win it’s involved in, but it resets between base game spins.

The Mad Hatter’s Bonus Round is triggered when you rack up 3 watch scatters in the same tumbling win sequence. This awards 6 free spins, and the White Rabbit Wild multiplier never resets between free spins. The Wild still reappears as a 1x1 wild after a hot spot expansion win, but the hot spot size does not reset. This means that the highest previously achieved hot spot size is saved between free spins, making it a tad easier to reach the 5x5 max size.

You don’t have to wait for the bonus round to trigger organically if you play in a jurisdiction that makes you eligible for the Bonus Buy feature. This option is not available for UK players however, and it will set you back 70x your stake. This awards 3 scatters on the spin that follows, and the RTP increases to a decent 97.14 % when you take advantage of the bonus buy option.

Review Summary

Plunderland is one of those releases that might confuse you a bit at first, at least if you test it without reading about the features up front. Once you get into the swing of things however, following the White Rabbit Wild on his journey to the magic hot spot position becomes a joyous experience. You will get frustrated at times as well though. The low key visuals suit the 7x7 cluster pays grid just fine, but the game as a whole is a bit of an acquired taste.

The expanded multiplier wild can make a dent also in the base game, sure, but getting only 6 free spins means the feature will be over in a blink when you’re out of luck. This can be quite frustrating, as it also is when the wild starts over as a 1x1 wild usually far away from the hot spot. As indicated above, Plunderland will either grow on you or not, and spending some time testing the free demo game is probably a good idea to see where you land.
