The Wild West slot genre has spawned plenty of gritty and solid releases over the years, but we can reveal up front that Bounty Gold is not one of them. Truth be told, this looks like something crafted by some beginner-level partner studio, and not the work of a highly experienced developer like Pragmatic Play. Half-baked ideas will many times be dressed up in the evergreen Western theme, and this looks like a perfect example of that.

The cartoonish visual style is okay, but the two outlaws, with their weird smiles and rosy cheeks, hardly look like they could hurt a fly. The base game lacks excitement to say the least, so you’re basically just grinding along to trigger the Money Respins feature. It comes with up to 4 reel sets, which is a tad unusual for the hold-and-win genre, but you need to unlock the hard-to-get 4th grid to truly do damage during the feature.

The Wild symbol can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, and it steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations. The wild holds no value of its own, while the 4 premium symbols pay between 3 and 8 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins.

The sole feature in this dusty old town is the Money Respins round, and it triggers when you land at least 6 money symbols in view at the same time. The triggering symbols become sticky on a new and otherwise cleared grid, and you can unlock up to 3 extra 5x3 grids during the feature.

You start with 3 respins, and new sticky money symbols resets the respins tally to 3 each time they land. You open up the 3 extra grids by landing 9, 18 and 26 sticky money symbols, respectively, and each new grid that opens gives you more empty positions to fill.

You also win jackpots by filling a grid with sticky money symbols, and the jackpot value increases the harder it is to unlock the grid. The respective jackpots pay 25, 50, 500 or 5,000 x your stake (grid 1, 2 3 and 4), but that’s not all. You’ll also benefit from a multiplier of x2, x3 and x4 per grid you unlock. These multipliers apply to all money symbols on the respective grids, and you get an x5 boost if a total of 44 money symbols land.

Review Summary

It didn’t take long before Bounty Gold revealed itself to be significantly below what we expect from Pragmatic Play. The two characters, male and female, just don’t look the part, and it’s like the design theme didn’t quite know if they were supposed to create visuals for a gritty wild west installment or a non-serious one. The two supposed outlaws look like apple-cheeked city slickers dressed up for an instagram-ride in a theme-park, accompanied by a decent western-style soundtrack cliché.

The barebones base game is about as interesting as the wind blowing through the empty and dusty main street, and it can take a good while between bonus round triggers. You get to unlock up to 3 extra grids in this streak respins style feature though, but getting to number 3 or 4 is far from easy. The multipliers and jackpots add a bit of motivation, but hardly enough to make this anything but a below average run-of-the-mill effort.
