On a planet somewhere far away in the galaxy, scientists are in a battle against time to develop robots that can help in the next ‘astrocalypse’. They are desperate to get The Destroyer robot finished asap, but they have trouble with robots exploding when they come face to face with cloned versions. This Quickspin’s backstory to Warp Wreckers Power Glyph in a nutshell, and it might make more sense once you’ve settled into the gameplay.

It’s nice to see the Glyph series once again take a detour from the Ancient Egypt theme, like Quickspin also did in Ghost Glyph, and the 4,726x potential has also been improved since that release. It’s still far lower than Golden Glyph and its sequel though, but you get an action-packed and charming installment with plenty of Power-Up modifiers to keep you going in all stages of the game.

The robot premium symbols - Unit Robot, Jetta Robot and Grabber Robot - all pay 10x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, while the low pays award between 2 and 4 x your stake for the same. Landing 5 of any robot type on a payline awards 5x your stake, and the Wild and Power Glyph Wild symbols both pay 50x your stake for 5-oak wins. The wilds also substitute for regular pay symbols, as they usually do.

Winning symbols are removed from the grid, and each cascade increases the global win multiplier by +1. No new symbols are added to the grid though, so only existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps. A wild is generated in the middle position if the winning line consists of 3 or 5 symbols, and you get a Power Glyph Wild if you win with premium robot symbols.

If the Power Glyph Wild is used in a subsequent win, it triggers a modifier from the Power-Up Stack that shuffles with each spin (seen on the left-hand side). You get a random line-up of 4 Power-Up modifiers per base game spin, and once activated as described above they play out one after another:

• The Transformer - transforms a random symbol type into another.
• The Eraser - removes all instances of a randomly chosen symbol type.
• The Warper - turns randomly selected symbols into wild symbols.
• The Bomber - drops wilds from above that fill random available positions.

You need to clear the grid completely of all symbols except wilds to trigger the Bonus Round, and this awards 6 free spins. The global win multiplier increases per cascade as in the base game, but it does not reset between spins in the bonus round. You win +3 extra spins if you manage to clear the grid again, and you get The Destroyer symbol at the end of the Power-Up Stack. This symbol gives you +1 extra spin, as well as a randomly placed 2x2 wild symbol.

We have to say that Warp Wreckers Power Glyph made a great first impression on us, with its snappy high-paced gameplay and engaging sci-fi theme. There are moments of frustration created by this kind of concept though, like when you almost clear the grid, or when you burn through your 6 hard-earned bonus round spins with little to nothing to show for it. That’s just par for the course with a game like this though, and we still enjoyed the heck out of this thing most of the time.

We’ve seen similar concepts in action before, of course, like Play’n Go’s Moon Princess, but Warp Wreckers Power Glyph does not come across as a copycat effort. The gameplay is equally adorable though, and having several modifiers in escrow creates a certain tension. The 4,726x potential was observed in 100 million spins during testing, which is decent, and while this is not the most potentially lucrative installment in Quickspin’s Glyph range, it’s definitely the most charming, so far.
