Playtech partner Rarestone is showing no sign of slowing down their Fire Blaze production, and Buccaneer Bells: Fire Blaze Golden slot comes hot on the heels of Sisters Gift. The idyllic asian theme has been replaced with a salty pirate adventure, and some tweaks have been made to the features and the math model, as usual.

You can place bets between 20p and £500 per spin as usual, but the number of paylines have been reduced to 40. The medium volatility makes for casual gameplay, but there are plenty of Fire Blaze titles with a higher potential than the 1,000x that’s on offer here. Visually, the game caters more to western punters than many previous titles in the Fire Blaze series.

The pirate captain is the wild symbol in this game, and he can appear on all reels except the first. The wild steps in for all regular pay symbols, like wilds usually do. Other than that, this game is all about the Hold & Respins feature and the Bonus Round.

You need at least 6 bell symbols anywhere in sight to trigger the Fire Blaze Golden Respins feature. The triggering bells turn into cash coins, and become sticky on the reels. You will now land only blanks or new cash coins, and you start with 3 respins.

Instead of a total win calculation in the end, like is usually the case, your winnings are summed up for every new cash coin you land. Every new coin also becomes sticky on the reels, and the respins tally reset to 3 again for each coin you land.

In addition, you can land the Mini, Minor and Major jackpot coins, and this means that you win the corresponding jackpot. You can land more than one jackpot per feature, and the Grand Jackpot is won when you fill the reels with nothing but cash coins and/or jackpot symbols. The 4 fixed jackpots are worth the following:

• Mini Jackpot equals 12x your stake
• Minor Jackpot equals 20x your stake
• Major Jackpot equals 100x your stake
• Grand Jackpot equals 1,000x your stake

The pirate ship is the scatter symbol, and you need at least 3 anywhere on the same spin to trigger the bonus round. You win 2x, 10x or 50x your stake from 3, 4 or 5 scatters respectively, and you get 8 free spins no matter how many scatters above the minimum of 3 you land.

The bonus round doesn’t come with any twists or extras this time, but you can retrigger it by landing 2 or 3 scatters on the same free spin. This gives you 4 or 8 extra spins respectively, and there is no upper limit as to how many times you can do this. Of course, you can also trigger the Fire Blaze feature from within the bonus round.

Anyone who’s come into contact with the Fire Blaze Jackpot series will pretty much know the drill. Usually, the bonus round comes with a unique twist, but this time the twist is the fact that no twist exists. You can win up to 160x your stake on a single spin, which is not extremely impressive, and therefore the Hold & Respins feature is your best bet at higher payouts.

The fact that you get a new win calculation for every cash coin you land makes Buccaneer Bells stick out from the rest of the Fire Blaze series. Still, the Grand Jackpot is worth only 1,000x here, which is lower than many of the other games. You either like this concept, or you don’t, and fans of the Rarestone/Playtech series will probably enjoy this title until the next one comes along.
